What it is all about...

Summer 2002
Summer has been hot and fingers were flying over the yarn. The amount of
finished blankets turned in was very impressive. It is such a joy to see the
talent and artistic treasures our "Angels" deliver. Each one is crafted with
much love and care. We get thank-you letters sometimes that describes tears of
joy, or the happy sounds of laughter that seems to spread during each of these
deliveries. The discovery of a true moment expressed by this unconditional love
, often .is a memory that will lasts a Lifetime. I'm so inspired from the
letters and e-mails received each month. I would like to Thank each of you for
taking the moment to write. Your ideas and special thoughts are so appreciated.
I wish also to honor three wonderful ladies. Each has delivered a lot of yarn
and stacks of blankets. Driven many miles and always willing to go an extra mile
if needed. Thank You Ruby Elm, Janette Warren and granddaughter. Without your
support, it would have been difficult to share so much, with so many. I wish to
express my sincerest appreciation. Also on our list of super-hero's is a very
special teacher, Mrs. Cecelia Hamrick. Working from St. John Neumann Regional
Catholic School, she spreads our mission to young students. Their energy is
amazing and all is focused on "Children helping other Children". Truly one of
life's more beautiful moments. This is her sixth year in the program
.Congratulations on a great start!! Congratulations are in order for special
friend,. Bett Potazek. She now has a beautiful baby boy, a most wonderful
addition to a great family. We would like to send our very best wishes . PROJECT
UPDATES: 1. September begins with "Project Open Hand- P.W.A." ( People with
Aids). Our organization began 13 years ago with this as our single focus..
Thanks to the wonderful progress modern technology has brought to the treatment,
a life with this horrible disease is more manageable. But there is still many
that have to deal with some very difficult situations. It remains very important
for us to share our mission. We need volunteers for this years project delivery
points. If you have an afternoon to give, we will be glad to schedule you! Call
Ellie at 770-489-5816, today. 2. We completed a scheduled delivery at the
American Red Cross Blood Services, the Platelet Center. The delivery was a most
welcomed event and a great success! 3. The Kidney Dialysis Center also located
in Douglasville, was a joy to visit. The patients there spend many hours
receiving treatment and to snuggle into one of our beautiful blankets makes the
time much more comfortable. 4. Police, Sheriff and Fire Department programs, We
sponsor several of these offices , sending our message to those brave men and
women who serve us with such honorable dedication. We welcome any request from
all of these departments. Contact Ellie at 770-489-5816 if you have any request.
This also includes any that may have retired from these services. It has been a
wonderful summer! As some of you may know, I'm an avid reader. Would like to
share with all of you, an author whom I think may have the best book written
this year. Her name is Joan Medlicott, the book is titled "The Ladies of
Covington Send their Love". Her book is about Friendships between women.. A most
positive and warm story, which will touch each heart. This is one you will not
want to end, All the news for now
Love,
Ellie Handsel
