What it is all about...
| |
May 2001
Summer has been very exciting for our group. WE WERE ON TV!!!!!!!. Atlanta's
very own SuperStation, Channel 17, aired our story on May 26th. Founder Ellie
Handsel, Cathy Hudson, our friends at Healthfield Hospice, and all of the
wonderful crew at Atlanta's SuperStation teamed up together and produced a
profile of Ellie's Angels. The story began with Ellie explaining to everyone how
our network of friends and family produces thousands of blankets and tons of
well wishes to those in need. How each month is a prayer answered for many.
Displaying many of the beautifully handcrafted treasures, she describes the many
different types of work we receive each month from our wonderful volunteers. As
she describes the network, she her-self manages; it is very easy to see that
there is much joy in her world. There was just a little anxiety in the Angel's
corner that morning, but the professional efforts of the location crew made
everything turn out just wonderful! They followed volunteer, Cathy Hudson, as
she delivered blankets to one of our many stops, this time at Healthfield
Hospice. The crew filmed as Cathy did what she has done so many times before. On
a typical morning delivery, Cathy surprises someone with an unexpected present.
She so lovingly reads the card that goes along with each blanket, explaining the
gift. Can you imagine how wonderful it is for someone as happy in spirit as
Cathy is, to waltz in and present him or her with such a beautiful present?
Letters from recipients or from their family members express the joys and
graduated that these "gifts of love" our members send each month. It does my
heart good to be able to share this with so many of you. The wonderful crew at
Channel 17, we cannot thank you enough for all you have done. The cards and
letters are still coming in, from your shows program. What a great show! You can

They tell the stories of our very special southern artists, their art, and their
backgrounds. Guides you to the very best places to admire and maybe even a
purchase or two, southern art at it finest. And of course, the latest Non-Profit
Organizations news is available. Everyone had such a good time that day, and we
hope you caught the show. It is on every Saturday morning at 8:30am. Just in
time for you morning coffee and a show. They will always give you an idea for
the weekend's fun. Thank you Channel 17!
A warm welcome to our most recent volunteers and members. The list is so
interesting. We have members from Dallas -Texas, Lawrence- Kansas, Knoxville-TN,
and of course, our local girls from Raburn Gap-Ga. Thanks for all your support.
Your donations of yarn and you hours of service, were so greatly needed.
Knitters seem to have more time and need more yarn in the summer months. Must be
the heat? We do want to keep everyone busy. Help with additional drivers to run
the network. Our warehouse is in Douglasville, Ga. If you or anyone you may
think is able and willing to deliver or pick -up, Please do not hesitate. Call
Ellie Handsel at 770-489-5816. If it is only one trip a month, a long hop, or a
short hop, whatever you can donate, you will be so very much appreciated! And
remember that your time and gas is 100% deductible at tax time.
